Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a financial assistance opportunity to provide technical assistance and expertise to diatom analysts identifying diatom species in federal, state, tribal and university programs for water quality and biodiversity assessment. Technical assistance will specifically support land managers to develop consistent and accurate datasets for diatom species in the United States. USGS will provide technical support to assist academic institutions in carrying out their goals and objectives to complete accurate taxonomic treatments of diatoms. The collaborator will have the opportunity to resolve taxonomic issues related to the most common diatoms and similar species in flowing waters of the US. The study will offer access to material from US collections from EPA, USGS NAWQA and other programs. The objective of the project is to produce a minimum of 100 “taxon pages” for posting on an online diatom flora.
