The main purpose remains the same as written in the original funding opportunity announcement published on July 23, 2004 in the Federal Register: “To support the expansion of quality PMTCT program coverage throughout Uganda; conduct PMTCT training; identify gaps in the current national PMTCT program; and develop strategies to fill those gaps and to carry out other PMTCT promotion, policy and quality assurance activities. The overall aim of this program is to promote wide implementation of quality PMTCT programs throughout Uganda.” The project has two major components, both of which correspond to the main purpose of the award: 1) PMTCT programmatic activities and service delivery to 36 districts in Uganda, which is to continue through September 30, 2010, or until the new award is made under the competitive Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) number PS10-1021, whichever occurs sooner, and 2) The Public Health Evaluation (PHE) study entitled the ‘Tororo Child Cohort’, which is to continue through September 30, 2013.
