Strengthening HIV Strategic Information Activities in the Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan Under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

Description
The purpose of this program is to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health (MoH) to strengthen and expand Strategic Information (SI) activities in the Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This will be accomplished through: (a) development, implementation, and support of innovative surveillance and surveys to provide behavioral and biological data to monitor trends in the HIV epidemic; (b) development, implementation, and support for an HIV Health Management Information System (HMIS) and other public health informatics systems for better information flow from health facilities to the national level (c) collaboration with the MoH, CDC and other partners to develop a national HMIS strategy that enables integration of health-related systems in the lab, pharmacy and clinics; (d) development, implementation and support of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) strategies and tools to track and report programmatic activities; (e) capacity building for the host governments and other local institutions on the three key components of SI, namely disease surveillance, M&E and health informatics/HMIS; and (f) development and strengthening of MoH and local organization's skills in the areas of data collection, management, analysis, interpretation, presentation, dissemination, and use. Applicants are encouraged to submit a work-plan for as many countries as possible; however, the final determination of country assignment and activity will be decided at the time of the award.
