The purpose of this program is to provide technical assistance to Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to improve their safe-injection practices and related procedures in the context of infection prevention and control by: demonstrating successful implementation and adoption by host government of safe injection practices and other related procedures, including but not limited to phlebotomy, blood drawing, intravascular catheter use etc, at a pilot site; developing training materials for host government to incorporate in their training program for health care workers; and by developing and/or modifying host government's national injection safety and related procedures plan in the context of infection prevention and control. Applicants are encouraged to submit a work-plan for as many countries as possible; however, the final determination of country assignment and activity will be determined at the time of the award.
