Description

Purpose. This FOA issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, solicits Clinical Trial Planning Grant (R34) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to support the development of studies that will answer research questions essential for the design of robust clinical trials, in particular, Phase II and/or III clinical trials in the major hemoglobinopathies, sickle cell disease (SCD), and the thalassemias. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the Clinical Trial Planning Grant (R34) mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NHLBI intends to commit up to $4.65 million (total cost) over three years. The NHLBI anticipates that it will award up to $1.55 million in FY 2011 to fund six applications in response to this FOA. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
