ArchivedNational Park Service
Description
Continue the project started in FY 2010. To assist Alger County, Michigan area tourism related businesses, non-profit organizations, and private residence owners in reducing their carbon footprint which is having negative impacts on National Park Service natural and cultural resources. This will be accomplished through community outreach program presentations, various print, web, and audiovisual media, and a matching grant program for infrastructure greening or emissions output reductions. The grant program will be organized and facilitated by the recipient as one component of the overall program. Typical program procedures will include:•Various media releases on the program timed with introduction of a program website, and printing of brochure materials on the overall program.•Numerous community meetings, attendance at various fairs, trade shows, community organizations, etc., where a climate change educator will interact with community members to explain the links between climate change and affected natural and cultural resources in National Parks (Pictured Rocks and Apostle Islands National Lakeshores specifically.) At these community meetings, various methods of reducing our carbon footprint will be discussed -behavioral, sociological, individual purchases, transportation, community planning, etc. - and the matching grant program.
