Description

The purpose is to announce a funding opportunity for a supplemental award to the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) System. The purpose of the supplemental program is to monitor the HIV epidemic through HIV behavioral surveillance of men who have sex with men (MSM) between 13 and 17 years of age. This behavioral surveillance system will ascertain the prevalence of and trends in HIV risk behaviors and HIV infection among this group of young MSM, and measure the prevalence of co-infections, such as other sexually transmitted infections, when indicated. Information from the system will be used to determine the best method(s) for sampling this group of young MSM as well as develop and contribute to the evaluation of national and local HIV prevention services and programs. CDC’s HIV Strategic Plan has determined that monitoring behaviors that place people at risk for HIV infection is a key element of an integrated surveillance system.
