Purpose of Program: The objective of this program is to provide grants to institutions of higher education (IHEs) that meet certain qualifications to promote training and placement of individuals, including individuals who have completed a court reporting training program, as realtime writers in order to meet the requirements for closed captioning of video programming set forth in section 713 of the Communications Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 613) and the rules prescribed thereunder. Applications for grants under the Training for Realtime Writers Program--CFDA number 84.116K--must be submitted electronically using e-Application, accessible through the Department's e-Grants Web site at:http://e-grants.ed.gov.
