Countermeasures to Reduce Suicides on Railway Rights-of-Way
ArchivedDOT - Federal Railroad Administration
Description
Grant to fund Phase IV of a multi-year study to determine the prevalence and underlying causal factors of rail-related suicides, and develop effective measures to reduce the incidence of suicide along railway rights of way (including crossings). The purpose of the prevalence assessment is to better understand the circumstances and prevalence of suicides and attempted suicides on railroad property, which will support the development of customized prevention strategies on railroad property. Accurate documentation of the true extent of the problem will also provide an important baseline measure to help monitor rail suicide trends and help determine effectiveness of prevention strategies.
