BLM OR/WA: Lacks Creek Prairie Restoration Stewardship Project for Arcata Field Office, CA

Archived

Bureau of Land Management

Description

The prairies and oak woodlands in the project area within the Lacks Creek Management Area (LCMA) have been threatened by conifer encroachment that has occurred due to fire exclusion during the last 50 -100 years. Open areas dominated by native grasses, Oregon white oak, and California black oak are being replaced by a closed canopy Douglas-fir and tan oak dominated forest. This project will assist with implementation of prairie and oak woodland restoration in the LCMA.
