Description
The purpose of the program is protection of the public's health. This program addresses the "Healthy People 2010" focus area of Immunization and Infectious Diseases. Influenza pandemics have the potential to cause substantial morbidity and mortality as well as extensive social and economic disruption in the U.S. The overarching mission of CDC’s vaccine planning activities for pandemic influenza is to protect the public’s health and minimize the impact of an influenza pandemic by facilitating the manufacture, distribution, and administration of safe and effective pre-pandemic and pandemic influenza vaccines.
