Description

Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), solicits grant applications for cooperative agreements to establish regional research hubs to increase the evidence base for mental health interventions in World Bank designated low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Each regional hub is to conduct research and provide capacity-building opportunities in one of six geographical regions (i.e., East Asia and the Pacific; Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; Middle East and North Africa; South Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa). As a group, awardee hubs will constitute a collaborative network for mental health research in LMICs with capabilities for answering research questions (within and across regions) aimed at improving mental health outcomes for men, women, and children. This program is not intended to support research that can be conducted primarily in and/or by United States or other high income country institutions. Foreign Institutions are eligible to apply. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the Multi-Project Cooperative Agreement (U19) award mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIMH intends to commit approximately $2,000,000 (total costs) in FY 2011 to fund up to 3 new grants in response to this FOA. An award issued under this FOA is contingent upon the availability of funds and the receipt of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
