The purpose of the National Institute of Justice Research, Evaluation, and Development Projects Grants program is to encourage and support research, development, and evaluation to improve criminal justice policy and practice in the United States.With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for research and technology development or evaluation of expert systems technologies on handheld computing devices that emulate expert criminal justice practitioners’ cognitive processes to inform the actions of nonexpert practitioners and enhance their performance. These systems would be used in both training and operational scenarios.Authorizing Legislation: Title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (sections 201 and 202); Homeland Security Act of 2002 (section 232).
