Description

This is a Notice of Intent. This agreement is being implemented in order to gain assistance from the Chicago Horticultural Society’s Conservation and Land Management Mentoring program (CLM) with field work primarily related to listed aquatic species, specifically Bull Trout and short nosed sucker. The interns will also assist with plant and butterfly surveys. The objective is to provide an opportunity to recruit, train, and engage recent graduates in the fields of plant conservation and land management. This will further the conservation of sensitive resources, especially threatened, endangered, and sensitive plant and animal species (including fish), by enhancing the capability of professional staffs. This project will benefit the public by the interns assisting Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) biologists in meeting our resource protection mission and associated strategic plans to create habitat conditions that enable biological communities to flourish. This will be achieved by establishing a mentoring program whereby recent college graduates work directly with conservation and land management projects while receiving professional development opportunities and experience with a federal agency. Interns participating in this program will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about Service challenges and responsibilities and applicable Federal laws and regulations.
