Description

The purpose of this program is to support the HIV/AIDS national strategy and plan through the strengthening of laboratory services for implementation of the National Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) guidelines, in line with WHO ART recommendations, and improving the quality of care provided to HIV/AIDS patients. This is achieved through: Increasing access to CD4 testing for HIV positive patients to support the roll out of the ART program according to the new WHO guidelines. Increasing access to lab monitoring of patients on ART for early identification of treatment failure. Providing access to other laboratory tests essential to monitoring the health of people living with HIV/AIDS and the side effects of ART. Facilitating access to opportunistic infection diagnosis through establishment of a referral network from district hospitals and rural clinics to provincial labs with more advanced testing capacity.
