Description

In support of the Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Pacific Region is requesting project proposals for science and information that address one or more of the following three themes: Past and Future Geophysical Change, Ecological Responses to Climate or Large-scale Change, and Management Tools. See http://www.piccc.net for a map of the PICCC geographic area and a description of the PICCC and its research and management goals. Past and Future Geophysical Change - refers to projects that investigate trends in geophysical variables on an island or archipelago scale that are expected to respond to global-scale forcing of the climate system. The Pacific Island region is large, complex, and under-studied, and models of island-scale processes must be developed and based on sound data. Studies under this theme would aim to document past changes and trends observed historically or revealed by proxy variables, or to model such changes in the future under climate change scenarios. Ecological Responses to Climate or Large-scale Change - refers to projects that investigate past or future changes in Pacific Island terrestrial, aquatic and near-shore ecosystems in response to changing geophysical variables or other large-scale stressors. Management Tools - refers to projects that investigate or develop effective natural and cultural resource management tools or approaches to respond to projected ecological changes driven by large-scale processes.
