Description

The USGS Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) is offering a funding opportunity for research investigating the effects of the changing climatic conditions on patterns of soil water availability in the western United States. The objective of this program is to provide scientific insight into the potential consequences of climate change for water cycling and water availability in the southern Rocky Mountains. Central topics addressed by this project include 1) assessing how alteration temperature, precipitation and weather variability will alter temporal patterns of soil water content and utilization by vegetation, and 2) characterizing the impact of these changes in water availability on the distribution of plant species and functional groups. These topics will be explored in the range of ecosystems that comprise the western United States, notably shrublands and low elevation forests.
